Montgomery’s elementary school students continue to make great gains in reading and math, while the system’s middle and junior high school population continues to lag behind, according to test data released Monday.

More than 74 percent of the third- through fifth-grade students in Montgomery Public Schools scored at or above the proficient level on the reading portion of the Alabama Reading and Math Test, and 72 percent scored at or above the proficient level in math.

This gulf in the career goals and industry preferences of different ethnic groups emerged from the Universum 2006 University Graduate Survey, which examined the aspirations and attitudes of 7,760 students in the UK.
